The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) has announced a funding opportunity for original research addressing barriers that limit progress toward effective open- and closed-loop glucose control systems. By advancing research to accelerate the design of sensing and integrated platforms, the NIDDK seeks the development of affordable and user-friendly technologies to improve glucose control in patients with type 1 diabetes. The NIDDK announcement made specific reference to combining principles of engineering, nanotechnology, universal design, computer science and informatics to develop novel systems or components.
