Current Solicitations

Below are examples of current grant solicitations in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Additionally, some Federal agencies have specific web pages for nanotechnology funding opportunities. You can also find a variety of Government programs on our Funding Opportunities page.

For a full list of all available Federal grants visit www.grants.gov, as well as Fed Biz Opps.gov. As a note, solicitations are often worded generally and the technological tools to be employed, whether micro-, nano- or macro-scale, are not specified. Looking broadly into areas of interest—for instance, toxin removal or semiconducting materials—is often the best approach.  Dates below are deadline dates.

NASA: Spacecraft Water Sustainability through Nanotechnology [STTR_19_P1]

Water recovery from wastewater sources is key to long duration human exploration missions. Without substantial water recovery, life support system launch weights are prohibitively large.

EDA: FY19 Seed Fund Support (SFS) Grant Competition [EDA-HDQ-OIE-2019-2005942]

Unlocking risk capital for entrepreneurs and startups to grow, SFS grants provide up to $300,000 for projects that create, launch, or expand equity-based seed funds or that create networks and tools that enable capital to flow into high-growth startups in all parts of the U.S.

EDA: FY19 i6 Challenge [EDA-HDQ-OIE-2019-2005942]

Catalyzing high-growth entrepreneurship throughout the country, the i6 Challenge awards up to $750,000 for projects that increase regional capacity to accelerate the translation of innovations, ideas, intellectual property, and research into products, services, companies, and jobs.

DOD: Fundamental Research to Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction [HDTRA1-14-24-FRCWMD-BAA]

DTRA safeguards America and its allies from weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and provides capabilities to reduce, eliminate, and counter the threat and effects from chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and high yield explosives.

Call for User Proposals: The Molecular Foundry at LBNL

The Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), a Department of Energy (DOE) nanoscale science user facility, is currently soliciting proposal submissions for access to instruments, capabilities and skilled technical staff.

DOD: Research Interests of the US Air Force Academy [USAFA -BAA-2009-1]

USAFA strives to conduct research to enhance the ability of the Air Force to perform its mission.

DOE: DE-FOA-0002020: FY 2019 Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) Multi-Topic Request For Information (RFI)

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) is requesting information on research opportunities related to outdoor algae research, biomass characteristics and feedstock performance, and renewable energy from urban and suburban wastes to help inform its research priorities and funding strategies.

NIH: Early Phase Clinical Trials in Imaging and Image-Guided Interventions (R01) [PAR-17-167]

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is intended to support clinical trials conducting preliminary evaluation of the safety and efficacy of imaging agents, as well as an assessment of imaging systems, image processing, image-guided planning and/or execution therapy, contrast kinetic modeling, 3-D reconstruction and other quantitative tools.
